Updated: Feb 1, 2021

The National Organization of Blacks In Government (BIG) is sponsoring its 2021 Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Student Competition. The official theme is: "Creativity Inspired by Science and Technology." This competition is designed to challenge the creative minds of high school students. The STEM competition invites students to create a superhuman character that came to Earth to restore unity, inclusiveness, and cooperation. Based on scientific research, students will develop their super character and write a story explaining how they got their superpowers.

The Charlottesville Chapter of The Links, Inc. in partnership with Blacks in Government will make a positive contribution to the community through this endeavor.

First-place winners from the chapter competitions compete at the regional level. Regional Councils' STEM winners compete in the national contest. The national STEM competition occurs at the BIG National Training Institute. The national awards are:

(a) First Place – Plaque and $1000,

(b) Second Place – Plaque and $600, and

(c) Third Place – Plaque and $400.
